SHELTER FOR DISPLACED
23 March 2012

1 – In the shade

Journey from South America to United States of America needs a lot of determination from a person to run it despite obstacles. There is nothing that can protect them from hunger and violence, all they have is hope. They travel in the shade to avoid danger. Above all, they need to rest and feel save. It is not about fences and walls but consciousness that they are not alone but there is whole community of people like them.

2 – Location

Shelter is placed in a characteristic spot that is easy to notice for travelling emigrants not familiar with the area. When passing viaduct there is a hill on the left side and Leheria train station in the distance. It's well visible from railways and provides an easy access from road on the top as well as from railways on the bottom. In this way hill connects people who need help with volunteers from the town.

3 – Village.

The Idea is to build a village around the v-shape street with separate houses, square and chapel, where all basic human activities and requirements can be satisfied. Like in normal life held in normal city. Emigrants could act as citizens, stop hiding in constant shade and simply - show up to the sun. From inside it's an open air master plan, but simultaneously, from outside, whole village is hidden in the hill. It gives emigrants a save frame for recover and rest.
